Next destination: the couchsurfing collective in Homer, Alaska!
Behold, my next destination: Homer, Alaska. I just received word from the tech team that I have been chosen for one of the positions for the collective in Alaska. I will arrive there early June, and stay until the end of the collective, somewhere around the end of August.
I think it will be a good opportunity to try to make a difference doing the things I am good at. In addition, I look forward to spending quality time with the guys that have stayed in my home for 2 months during the Rotterdam collective.
The nature around there is very beautiful and from what I have read, killer whales and blue whales live in that area. I am hoping to see one of those!

Some updates..
Hello all,
As I don’t really have anything happening right now that is worth a story, it’ll be just another bullet point list of what’s been happening in my life.
- I have been working really hard lately. Unfortunately, I have had my share of work-related problems the past few weeks. No Internet for almost a week, Vista crashing for no reason, the program that I am working on giving me a lot of crap, the challenges of a 5 hour time difference. These have been the problems that have been keeping me busy. I have been at my friend Felipe’s place for almost a week because of the Internet problems and have worked through weekends to make up for the lost time of vista breaking down.
- My relationship with Raquel ended as quickly as it started. I broke up with her after some pretty nasty events. It’s sad, but I feel there is nothing that can be done about this anymore.
- The time difference between here and the Netherlands is now 5 hours. This brings some new challenges as I try to start work at 8:00 dutch time, which is now 3:00 Brazilian time. I hardly ever make that.
- My balloons package has entered Brazil, but it hasn’t arrived yet. I am anxiously waiting for it :). Also, a package sent to me for my birthday by my good friend Eef from Holland, has not yet arrived. It has been underway for over a month now.
- The organisation for the national couchsurfing meeting we are creating is going smoothly. We have bi-weekly meetings and things are coming along just fine. We already have over 100 people signed up for the meeting. It’s gonna be great!
- Next week I’ll be doing another competition trekking episode, this time near Ouro Preto. This one is going to be in the dark! As if that doesn’t present a nice challenge by itself, the terrain in that area is very steep, so it will be tough on me. Nevertheless I don’t think this is your average everyday experience, so I am gonna try my best to keep up
That’s all I can think of for now ![]()
